I felt that to achieve my goals, I need to suffer now.
I wish someone had told me that there are many ways to achieve a goal and that it is very important to understand how you want to feel.

When you recognize what your end goal is, it is easier to understand how you want to feel when you reach the goal and while achieving it. This helps you set more detailed goals and figure out the first step to achieving them.
For example, I want to own a farm and grow the feed for my animals. I could do many things to make that happen but that may include doing a lot of things I’m not ready for.
Maybe I get chickens, cows, and horses all at once. Then I grow my own feed at the same time. That’s overwhelming for someone who hasn’t lived that life before.
But if I want to own a farm in peace and enjoy farming, that’s a very different approach.
How you feel during the process of achieving your goals is just as important as uncovering it.
1.List Your End Goal. What do you want to do?
I want to grow my own feed.
2. What does the process looks like for you?
- What do you want to happen?
- How do you want to receive your end goal?
- How do you want to feel now and when you meet your goal?
- What are some things (practical and impractical) that could help you feel that way?
3. With that in mind, list what is needed to achieve that goal?
For me, I need to research how others grow their own feed, prepare the land, and buy the seeds needed.
It is also important that I don’t feel like the weight of growing food and raising livestock is immediately on me. I decide I will buy the feed first, then mix it myself, as I prepare to grow it.
Example:
- Research one animal that I would like to have (chickens) and buy the animal and the feed.
- In 6 months, I will make my own feed.
- In 12 months, I will grow my feed.
4. In between each mini goal, list the steps it takes to make each goal.
Begin with the end goal.
Example:
To grow my own feed, I will:
- Research how others grow their own feed
- Prepare the land and buy the seeds needed
To mix my own feed, I will:
- Research the best feed mix for chickens
- I will budget the funds it takes to buy each ingredient.
To get started, I will:
- Research one animal that I would like to have (chickens)
- Buy the animal
- Buy the feed.
5. Combine them and take your first step!
List your items from step 3 and 4 in order of completion. This is your task list. Take the first step to achieving your goal!
Example:
- Research one animal that I would like to have (chickens), buy the animal and the feed.
- Research the best feed mixes for chickens
- I will budget the funds it takes to buy each ingredient.
- In 6 months, I will make my own feed.
- Research how others grow their own feed
- Prepare the land and buy the seeds needed
- In 12 months, I will grow my feed.
I don’t believe that you have to toil endlessly to get what you want. You can work hard and enjoy the process.

I took a shorter route: I want to own an independently financed animal rescue. It will require land, staff, and indie finances. I don’t have indie finances. I don’t feel like doing the work to get indie finances. I will settle for being a crazy cat lady.
